Imagens Da Diaspora

Lopes, Goya Falcon, Gustavo

For three centuries, millions of Africans were forcibly removed from their homelands to work as slaves in Colonial America. Brazil received the largest share of them — around five million individuals. The immense African contribution that followed extended far beyond the material world, deeply influencing Brazil’s art, language, spirituality, family structures, and way of life. This Black diaspora gave rise to an innovative experience, blending races and creating a new people on the American continent. This book retraces the African journey in Brazil and highlights the uniqueness and beauty of the Afro-Brazilian legacy, represented here through the unmistakable style of visual artist Goya Lopes, accompanied by insightful texts by historian Gustavo Falcón.
